Superhero News: Marvel Gets Their Yes Man and Ant-Man Gets a Director… and a New Writer!

So It looks like Marvel really is scarping the bottom of the director barrel to find their man…and that man is…

                                                      Peyton Reed

Now while Mr. Reed might be giving the thumbs up, many Marvel fans are not so inclined to endorse this signing. The director of such “gems” as Yes Man, The Break-Up and Bring it On (Did I say scraping the directors barrel?) has been signed to take over after the departure of previous director and fan favorite Edgar Wright.

And what’s this? Director Adam McKay, who was previously rumored as a candidate to direct the film, has been hired to contribute to the existing script by Edgar Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish. Huh?

This story keeps getting weirder by the minute.. I, for one, was looking forward to an Edgar Wright directed Ant-Man but now I’m not so sure. Peyton Reed was attached to direct 2002’s Fox debacle Fantastic Four so the man has been wanting to take on a superhero franchise but is he the right man for the job? His film history says he’s not. And with the addition of Adam McKay, does Marvel anticipate a more comedic film than the source material warrants?

Marvels choice of directors to interview after Wright has been head scratching and the hires of these two men do little to calm down the pitchforks…but I guess we’ll all have to sit back and see what ultimately becomes of the Ant.

  1. A move to appease those who wanted find a reason–any desperate reason–to wait for the film, but nothing to inspire those of us who don’t automatically give Marvel the benefit of the doubt for every bonehead move it makes behind the scenes. We’ll see.
